Marine Diesel Engine Bed Plate
The Marine Diesel Engine Base Plate Spare provides a rigid base for the crankshaft, which is absolutely necessary for satisfactory engine operation. The bedplates comprise a deep longitudinal Girder (running along the length of the engine) and a Transverse Girder. The Transverse Girder and longitudinal Girder are joined by welding.

The Marine Diesel Engine Base Plate of a ship is made of cast iron and medium steel as a single casting for small-bore engines. It equipped larger engines with an engine-designed bedplate. The engine bed plate ensures that it welded together the steel casting and the steel plate from the steel part.
The engine bedplates are the basis for 2-stroke engines. It must be rigid enough to support the weight of the rest of the engine and keep the crankshaft aligned, which is in the bearing housing of the beam. It must be elastic enough to hang with the base plate. The foundation plate is part of the ship’s structure.

Important functions of the Bedplates
- Supports static loads of fixed engine frame and block.
- Supporting the dynamic load of the running gear.
- Supports the crankshaft and keeps it perfectly aligned.
- Distribute static and dynamic loads from engine operation to the ship’s structure.
- Collects crankcase oil and transfers it to the sump tank from where the oil pump can suck it in.
- Secure the engine to the top of the tank to transfer the propeller thrust to the hull structure.
- Contributes to improving the hull strength of the engine room bottom structure.
