Anchors have evolved dramatically over the decades. There is now a selection of anchor types designed to suit a variety of scenarios. Choosing the right anchor is crucial in terms of safety and how they will perform on where you plan on dropping. We’ve rounded up each type of anchor whether that be the traditional ‘Fisherman’ or the suite of ‘New generation’ anchors which have revolutionised anchors and scored extremely well in holding tests. Whatever anchor you choose, beware of cheap unbranded copies.

Fisherman Anchor

Fisherman’s anchor with a sharp triangular bottom and a small forged handle on top. It can be used on all surfaces and helps keep your boat not just anchored to the ground. This design prevents the anchor from moving around due to high winds. Fisherman anchors are made of steel and can be used for overnight trips.
When it comes to anchoring in rocky, coral conditions, it’s hard to be a fisherman anchor. The shape and design of these anchors make them easy to set up and are especially strong in rocky conditions. Even if you don’t use it all the time, it can be helpful to have a fisherman’s anchor in place when needed.
